In this project, students were asked totranslate the lines of a simple poem into a digital website. Using the concrete poems we reviewed in class as a reference, they were then to select an existing poem or create their own poetry to work with. They needed to consider the ways in which language could be divided or disrupted away from traditional grammatical structures. With CSS properties, they could modify individual letters or groups of words. Constraints included: using a foreground or background color, but only one color for each — thereby working with form and counterform only.
Iris' website used the words from a quote by J.R.R. Tolkien from The Lord of the Rings. Live version located here.
